This resume template is SO beautiful, I immediately opened it up and planned out my resume. Love it!
Opened and operated quick and flawlessly both on my Windows desktop where I used Google Docs, and also from my boyfriend’s Mac Air where I used Word. Well done, thank you for the great product!

Although I'm in academia and not medicine, this particular template was SO helpful in applying for a recent job. Previously, I had struggled with Microsoft Word's "Resume" settings, thinking I could save money and just make a presentably looking one on my own. It sucked. I highly recommend this template for anyone looking for a quick and professional look on their resume or CV!

I was looking for an easy to use professional resume template and am so happy I found this one! The resume writing guide was helpful since I'm changing careers to the medical technology industry. It really saved me a lot of headache in the design department 🙂

This template is great! Just what I needed to finally get started with my job search. I also appreciated the included Resume Writing Guide. It was very nice to have that advice on hand, without having to dig through a bunch of blog spam to find some useful tips!

What is the difference between a resume and a CV?

Although sometimes used interchangeably, resumes and CVs differ in their depth and length. CV or curriculum vitae is Latin for ‘course of life.’ In contrast, resume is French for ‘summary.’

Your CV offers a complete history of your academic credentials, which makes the length of the document variable. Your resume, in contrast, presents a summary of your qualifications and skills for a specific position, so it tends to be shorter.

Both CVs & Resumes:

  • Are tailored for the specific job/company you are applying to
  • Should represent you as the best qualified candidate
  • Are used to get you an interview
  • Do not usually include personal interests

If you are still confused by the difference between a CV and a resume, please see our helpful infographic below that explains key differences between these two formats.

CV vs Resume

What skills do I put on a resume?

Make sure to include the skills that are relevant to the job or position that you are applying for.

Also important is how you integrate those skills into your resume. For example, if you want to highlight your problem solving skills, make sure that you explain how you used your problem solving skills and not just that you used them. Here’s an example of the difference:

How NOT to list a skill How TO list a skill
Problem solving
Identified the problems in X company’s email campaign and worked with both the marketing and sales teams to create a better campaign that increased open rates by 3x

Do you see what we did here in the ‘How To’ section. We used specific language to communicate that we created a quantifiable change in our last position. Bottom line, use specific language whenever possible when writing about your skills.

Skills can also be broken down into two categories: soft skills and hard skills. Both are important and here are the differences: Soft skills are easily transferable across multiple jobs and are not easy to teach. In contrast, hard skills can be very job specific and are easy to teach. Please see the infographic below to get a clearer picture of the difference between soft skills and hard skills.

Can I use a resume template?

Yes! In fact, we recommend it because it can be frustrating and time-consuming for someone who is not a designer to create a professional resume.

Resume templates make your life easier as a job seeker because they take out all the guesswork from formatting and designing the perfect resume.

At Good Luck Templates, we offer a wide array of resume templates that you can use for virtually any job. Please see our resume template offerings. Here’s a resume template that our customers love.

How long should a resume be?

Generally, we recommend job seekers use a single page resume format unless they have decades of work experience. Only then is a two-page resume necessary. Always remember quality over quantity. You are more likely to make a bigger impact with a well written and targeted resume than one that is generic and wordy.
